There are many people carrying ideas that could genuinely change their lives. Businesses, books, services, and creative projects often begin as quiet thoughts that stay in someone’s head for years. The challenge is not always a lack of vision. Sometimes it is simply not knowing how to move from idea to action.
In this episode of the Creative Business Mindset™ Podcast, I sat down with Charles Lee to talk about what it can look like to turn ideas into something tangible. Charles has worked with brands including Google, Toyota, and TOMS, helping businesses bridge the gap between strategy and execution.
Ideas Need Movement
One thing Charles said during the conversation stayed with me:
“Ideas are impotent without action.”
It can feel easier to stay in preparation mode, waiting for confidence or certainty before beginning. But often, clarity develops through movement, not before it.
Many successful businesses evolve while they are being built. Charles also shared that the idea you start with is rarely the idea you end up with. That feels important because growth naturally changes perspective, messaging and direction over time.

Proof of Concept vs Proof of Value
One of the most practical parts of the conversation was the distinction between proof of concept and proof of value.
An idea making sense to you personally does not always mean it creates value for someone else. Over time, the more important question becomes whether the idea genuinely supports people, solves a problem, or improves someone’s experience in a meaningful way.
Charles talked about understanding whether an idea is desirable, feasible, and sustainable. Those questions can help entrepreneurs build businesses that are not only exciting to create, but also valuable to the people they are trying to serve.

Branding Is More Than Visuals
We also talked about branding, which is often misunderstood as purely visual.
Charles described branding as what people say about you when you are not in the room. That perspective changes the conversation because branding becomes less about aesthetics and more about clarity, consistency and trust.
A strong brand often develops when people clearly understand who you are, what you stand for and how your work supports them.

Dream Big. Start Small. Keep Moving.
At the end of the episode, Charles shared three simple ideas:
Dream big.
Start small.
Keep moving.
There is something grounding about that reminder. Big visions can feel overwhelming when viewed all at once, but momentum often develops through small consistent steps over time.
If you have been carrying an idea for a while, maybe this conversation can serve as a reminder that clarity does not always arrive before action. Sometimes it develops alongside it.
